Plaza Feed and Intralytix collaborate on bacteriophage kit for pathogen control in livestock production
Phage-probiotic combination targets E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria in protein production systems.

Plaza Feed & Crop Nutrition is announcing an exclusive agreement with biotechnology company Intralytix for the use of their bacteriophage products in phage kits for protein live production applications. The kits pair Intralytix’s highly specific antimicrobials, aka phage, grouped into combinations targeting pathogenic serotypes, including E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, with Plaza’s Cecabiotics, a high-performance, wide-spectrum probiotic providing nutrient optimization, performance enhancement and pathogen mitigation.
The phage rapidly attacks target pathogens, and Cecabiotics fills the resulting gap and suppresses further pathogen growth through competitive exclusion. This synergistic mechanism ensures long-term control over harmful bacteria while protecting beneficial microbiota.
“The positive response to Plaza’s probiotic Cecabiotics has been very rewarding,” said Randy Velarde, president of Plaza. “Working with Intralytix, a world leader in bacteriophage, to provide a significant, novel solution to the protein live production market is a game changer.
“Our phage kits have the ability to naturally maintain a productive microbiome for poultry, ruminants and other livestock. Maintaining a healthy animal population is our clients’ top priority, and we are committed to delivering the solutions they need to do just that.”
“Pairing Cecabiotics with our precision-engineered bacteriophages represents a significant step forward in pathogen management,” said Alexander Sulakvelidze, CEO of Intralytix. “This one-step kit makes advanced microbial control more accessible and more effective for livestock producers. We look forward to a long-standing partnership as we expand its adoption into new segments of livestock.”
Members of the Plaza Feed & Crop Nutrition team will be onsite at the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) 2026 to meet with industry professionals and discuss the latest innovations in biosolutions for the protein live production segment.
