PURE Hard Surface disinfectant included in Chipotle’s enhanced restaurant procedures

PURE Bioscience, Inc., creator of the patented silver dihydrogen citrate (SDC) antimicrobial, today announced that Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. has adopted PURE® Hard Surface disinfectant as a food safety solution to eliminate and prevent Norovirus and other viruses and bacteria in all +2,100 of its store locations nationwide.

Chipotle recently began promoting “Our Food Safety Advancements” and its eight-step food safety program in the media. The new food safety program was also discussed in a 9/21/16 NY Times article entitled, “Every Day’s a Safety Drill as Chipotle Woos Customers Back.”

Chipotle’s web site details the “Food Safety Advancements” it has implemented to ensure that its fresh ingredients are as safe as possible. While it does not identify specific product names, the following statement from its web site refers to Chipotle’s adoption and use of PURE Hard Surface: “We have adopted the use of a natural disinfectant that virtually eliminates harmful bacteria and viruses from the restaurant environment.” This is part of Chipotle’s ‘state of the art sanitation procedures,’ as described on its website - see “Enhanced Restaurant Procedures - Protocols for Handling Ingredients and Sanitizing Surfaces in Our Restaurants."

Chipotle’s commitment to become a leader in food safety, and implement the industry’s premier systems, is being led by Dr. James L. Marsden, Ph.D., Executive Director of Food Safety at Chipotle. Marsden is one of the nation’s foremost authorities on food safety.

A New Paradigm of Protection

Chipotle adopted PURE Hard Surface disinfectant in part because of its unique, non-toxic SDC-based solution providing superior efficacy in eliminating and preventing Norovirus and other pathogens. PURE Hard Surface disinfectant is being used by Chipotle on surfaces that come in contact with food in both the front and back of the restaurant, as well as other areas susceptible to contamination by bacteria and viruses.

Hank R. Lambert, CEO of PURE  said, “We are proud that PURE Hard Surface disinfectant is playing an important role in Chipotle’s state of the art sanitation procedures. From the outset, our goal has been to protect people and protect a company’s brand. Our SDC-based antimicrobial solution solves an immediate need for increased food safety by providing a uniquely effective, environmentally responsible solution.

“Dr. Marsden and Chipotle are establishing safe food processes and practices throughout the Chipotle system, addressing both supply chain safety and the safety of the procedures at restaurants. Dr. Marsden is intimately familiar with the superior ability of PURE’s non-toxic SDC solution to eliminate pathogens, including Norovirus, E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria in restaurants and their supply chains,” concluded Lambert.
