Smithfield to close Massachusetts dry sausage facility
A Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification Act notice from the MassHire Department of Career Services indicates that 190 employees will be laid off between April 10 and Sept. 11, 2026.

Pork producer Smithfield Foods is closing its dry sausage facility in Springfield, Mass., with operations expected to end August 2026. Production will be transferred to other Smithfield packaged meats facilities.
