Biotechnology company bioMérieux is launching Gene-Up Typer SLM, a real-time PCR assay designed to support rapid root cause analysis for Salmonella contamination events in food production.
The assay targets Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica, the subspecies mostly frequently isolated in human salmonellosis cases and in food-related incidents. bioMérieux said the solution is intended to help food manufacturers identify strain relationships, trace contamination sources and support corrective actions in processing facilities.
For meat and poultry processors, pathogen investigations can affect production decisions, sanitation verification, recall response and both customer and consumer confidence. Strain-typing tools can help processors determine whether positive results are linked to a recurring contamination source, or a specific processing area or separate events.
After pathogen detection and isolation during routine testing, DNA is extracted and amplified with the corresponding Gene-Up Typer assay. Results generated by the Gene-Up instrument are then uploaded to bioMérieux's Augmented-DX web portal.
"bioMérieux is continuing to drive innovation in cutting-edge science and technology, supporting food manufacturers as they navigate a rapidly shifting environment. Following the successful launch of our Listeria assay last year, the introduction of Gene-Up Typer for Salmonella is a natural continuation of our mission, bringing an innovative solution capable of rapidly supporting root cause analysis through genomics and data. This will help the industry reduce foodborne illness, ultimately enhancing consumer safety," said Yasha Mitrotti, executive vice president, Industrial Applications, bioMérieux.
Gene-Up Typer SLM follows the company's earlier Gene-Up Typer assay for Listeria monocytogenes, which launched in early 2025. The Salmonella assay is available worldwide for food manufacturers.
