Butterball reduces sodium, improves packaging of turkey products

News Brief Feature

This holiday season, Butterball, LLC gives consumers a reason to celebrate by offering fresh turkeys, now with less sodium and a new easy open package making a simpler, safer way to open a turkey. These two new product features will help make Thanksgiving better than ever for consumers by providing them an easy way to prepare a tender and juicy turkey for family and friends.

“Knowing our consumers are looking for great tasting products and easy enhancements to the preparation process, we’re improving our offerings to include features that are now better-for-you and helpful to consumers during the already busy holiday season,” said Kari Lindell, director retail marketing for Butterball. “These new whole turkey product features will help make this holiday season better than ever for Thanksgiving cooks.”

As a participant in the National Sodium Reduction Initiative (NSRI), Butterball Fresh Whole Turkeys now use sea salt and have 35 percent less sodium than other alternatives. While Butterball Whole Turkeys previously met NSRI requirements, Butterball continues its commitment to product improvement. With only 130 milligrams of sodium, this turkey option has one of the lowest sodium levels among leading brands in the category.

Butterball is also unveiling an exclusive easy open Cryovac Grip & Tear® bag to make Thanksgiving a little easier for cooks. Knives and scissors are no longer required to open the bag – making preparation safer and more convenient for consumers – as all Butterball Whole Turkeys include large pull-apart tabs at the bottom-center of the package that open in one clean tear.
