The American Meat Institute (AMI) has released a new series of video vignettes highlighting the importance of environmental management systems and sustainability efforts in the meat and poultry industry. Through interviews conducted with industry leaders at the annual Conference on Worker Safety, Human Resources and the Environment, the videos tell the story of the various efforts companies have in place to manage their resources and benefit the environment and are designed to encourage companies throughout the industry to use AMI educational and web-based resources to improve and expand environmental management and sustainability programs at the corporate and plant level.

“The meat and poultry industry has made significant progress in its environmental management and sustainability efforts,” said AMI President and CEO J. Patrick Boyle. “These videos help illuminate the efforts that so many in the industry are making to produce food in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way.”

The videos are broken into four parts highlighting:

  • The Importance of an Environmental Management System

  • Key Approaches Within Environmental Management Systems

  • The Importance of the AMI Environmental Recognition Awards

  • Messages to Consumers about the Industry’s Environmental & Sustainability Efforts

The videos will be housed on AMI’s Meat News Network YouTube channel and featured on SustainableMeatIndustry.org along with an array of resources on environmental and sustainability efforts in the meat industry. Every year the American Meat Institute Foundation honors companies for advancements in their environmental management efforts with 116 plants earning awards in 2012.
