Missouri crowns its cured meats champs

Missouri Association of Meat Processors holds annual convention in Columbia.

Ed Woods of Woods Smoked Meats shows his Best of Show Award from the Missouri Association of Meat Processors annual convention. The overall top product at this year’s cured meats competition was a Pepper Sweet Bologna from the Game Meats category.

The top meat companies in the Show-Me State certainly showed off their best products at this year’s Missouri Association of Meat Processors Annual Convention. Held in Columbia, Mo. on March 3-5, the event featured a record-sized trade show, seminars and many networking opportunities, along with a cured meats competition.

The Best of Show award went to Wood’s Smoked Meats, of Bowling Green, Mo., for its Peppered Sweet Venison Bologna. The Taste of Missouri Winner, which is voted on by MAMP Show attendees, went to Hermann Wurst Haus of Hermann, Mo., for the third consecutive year. This year’s winning entry was a Summer Sausage with Cheese and Jalapeños. The Grand Champions for this year’s competition were:

  • Bone-In Ham: Russellville Locker
  • Boneless Ham: Stonies Sausage Shop
  • Bacon (Pumped & Tumbled): Country Meat Shop
  • Bacon (Dry-Cured): Country Meat Shop
  • Summer Sausage: Stonies Sausage Shop
  • Luncheon Meats: Swiss Meat and Sausage (Sweet Bologna)
  • Franks and Wieners: Country Meat Shop
  • Cooked Bratwurst & Smoked Links: Wood’s Smoked Meats
  • Fresh Bratwurst: Country Meat Shop (Cheddar Brat)
  • Meat Snack Sticks: Reis Meat Processing
  • Jerky: Hermann Wurst Haus
  • Jerky (Ground & Formed): Nadler’s Meats and Catering
  • Smoked Turkey: Davis Meat Processing
