June is Turkey Lovers’ Month, and this year those who grow and produce turkeys are coordinating to give back to their local communities. June 15 is the inaugural“Turkey Day of Service” when members of the National Turkey Federation are making donations of food, money and volunteering their time to help reduce food insecurity. In total, more than 150,000 pounds of turkey are being donated to 18 organizations in12 states.
“We want people to enjoy turkey all year round and to that end our members are giving to local communities, making donations, and helping prepare meals,” said Joel Brandenberger, National Turkey Federation president. “We’re proud of the generosity of our industry as we raise awareness and encourage others to join in the effort to end hunger by starting with their local communities.”
