Kerry enzyme system targets higher feed conversion, improved poultry and swine performance
System introduces a new concept in feed formulation—α-galactosidase super-dosing.

AlphaGal Ultra
Taste and nutrition solutions company Kerry introduces AlphaGal Ultra, a multi‑enzyme feed solution designed to help livestock producers extract more nutritional value from feed. The system aims to improve digestion, enhance feed conversion and support animal health by breaking down soy α‑galactooligosaccharides and other complex dietary substrates commonly found in modern livestock diets.
Feed remains the largest operational cost in livestock production, and Kerry positions AlphaGal Ultra as a tool to help producers manage raw material volatility while improving efficiency. The system has been validated across global production environments and is engineered to increase nutrient extraction from feed and maximize enzyme return on investment.
Performance across monogastric species
AlphaGal Ultra is a multi-carbohydrase enzyme system engineered to extract more energy from feed ingredients and minimize anti-nutritional factors present in soybean meal and other oilseed components. The system introduces a new concept in feed formulation, α-galactosidase super-dosing, to deliver reliable performance even as soy inclusion levels fluctuate.
Reported benefits include:
- Swine: Up to a two‑point improvement in feed conversion ratio (FCR) in growing pigs. In lactation diets, performance was bioequivalent to more than 2% choice white grease, with improved digestibility and an approximate 3% reduction in morbidity.
- Broilers: A three‑point FCR reduction, 2.3% increase in final body weight gain, and a 3% improvement in energy and amino acid digestibility.
- Layers: A 4% increase in egg production during peak periods, improved egg uniformity and quality, and reduced digesta viscosity contributing to cleaner eggs and healthier birds.
- Turkeys: Up to a four‑point FCR improvement over a 20‑week period and an approximate 2% reduction in litter moisture after a nine-week intervention.
The product is available in dry and liquid formats and can be added to premixes, mash feeds or applied post‑pelleting.
Kerry reports that AlphaGal Ultra supports more than 8 billion birds and 15 million pigs annually, contributing to:
- An estimated 604,000 metric tons of animal feed saved per year
- Approximately $135 million in total industry savings
- A 2.2% reduction in the carbon footprint of 1kg of chicken meat by improving nutrient uptake and reducing waste output
“The future of animal nutrition is defined by the ability to extract peak performance from every kilogram of feed,” said Niall Higgins, global R&D director, enzymes at Kerry. “AlphaGal Ultra empowers producers to realize the full nutritional potential of soybean‑based diets by neutralizing the specific anti‑nutritional factors that have historically hindered digestibility.”
