The grant funds will be used to recruit students into Cleveland Community College’s new Applied Animal Science Technology associate in applied science degree program.

This opportunity is made possible in part by an endowing USPOULTRY Foundation gift from Tyson Foods.

The expected long-term impact of the study was to help poultry breeders selectively breed chickens to have the most effective AvBD1 genotype, reduce the Salmonella population within the chicken gut and ultimately produce a safer poultry product.

The students will receive an all-expenses-paid trip and will participate in a program led by poultry industry leaders who will advise them of the career opportunities in the industry.

The grant was made possible in part by an endowing USPOULTRY Foundation gift from Jerry and Cherie Moye.

These students will also have an opportunity to see and experience the technology used in today’s modern, sustainable poultry industry by visiting the vast IPPE trade show floor.

The grant was presented to Dr. Melanie Glasscock, poultry science instructor, by Wallace State Community College President Dr. Vicki Karolewics.

The deadline to sign up is Friday, Jan. 6, and there is no cost to sign up for access to this talent pool.

Dr. William “Bill” Dozier intends for the funds to help strengthen recruiting efforts, allowing the poultry science department to interact with local high schools and community colleges.
